Rickerby Park Stone Circle

Stone Circle In Carlisle, Cumbria

A stone circle showing all the different kinds of stone that are quarried in the area.

Something unusual and pretty interesting in Carlisle is this six stone henge in Rickerby Park.

It was erected by the Eden Rivers Trust in 2011 and features five different types of rocks, all donated by different quarrying companies.

There is Kirkstone Slate, Shap Granite (which can be seen on a grand scale at the nearby cenotaph), limestone, Penrith sandstone and Millstone Grit. These are all rocks which can occur in the valley of the River Eden.

Well worth a little detour if you're in the area!

Thanks to our Fabulous North friend Sean Linley for the photos and information.

Thanks for checking out this place on the Fabulous North! I do enjoy a wander out in to the countryside trying to find hidden gems that not many people know about. You can't beat a rogue pele tower up a remote hill, a mysterious stone circle or a stunning waterfall secluded in a forest.
