Maybe a windmill, maybe used for sea-navigation, maybe just a pretty building. Now a holiday home.
The Outchester Ducket, or just The Ducket to the locals, is a bit of a mystery as to what it was originally built for. On some maps it was shown as a windmill, but there is little evidence for that in the way it was constructed.
Other maps show it as a sea-mark for navigation. Most recently it has been used as a dovecot, but may have simply been constructed for visual impact.
There was a roman camp at Outchester which is where its name may have derived from. Built in the 18th century it was thought that the Ducket was used to store and provide a supply of meat, eggs and manure. (Hopefully stored separately!)
The Ducket is now a self-catering holiday home and has fantastic views from its gallery on the top floor. So if you want a peek inside, why not book a stay.

Thanks for checking out this place on the Fabulous North! I do enjoy a wander out in to the countryside trying to find hidden gems that not many people know about. You can't beat a rogue Pele tower up a remote hill or a mysterious stone circle or a stunning waterfall secluded in a forest.
