Corsbie Tower

Tower In Gordon, Scotland

Corsbie Tower is a ruined 16th-century tower house near Gordon in the Scottish Borders, built by the Cranstoun family and surrounded by earthwork defences.what

When visiting a new area looking for fabulous places to find, one of the first things I enter into the search bar is the word tower (much to the chagrin of my Glamorous Assistant). Having an adventure up in the Scottish borders rarely disappoints as there were always a skirmish or two, so the chances of finding a a smashing ruined tower somewhere is usually pretty high.

The Corsbie Tower certainly didn't disappoint.

Also known as Corbie Castle, it is a 16th-century tower house located in Gordon and was once in the Scottish Borders, once owned by the influential Cranstons family of Oxenford.

I couldn't find too much about Corsbie Tower than what you can see on the photos. It's still standing, though only the south and east walls remain giving it an L-shaped structure. The walls themselves are canny thick and rise to around 15 metres high.

There is also a huge hole in the front. It doesn't look like a doorway as the bottom is still bricked up, so assume the entrance was on one of the other walls that no longer exist.

Inside you can make out signs of vaulted floors on the ground and top levels, with access likely through a ladder or a small spiral staircase.

The tower is also surrounded by earthworks, like a stone bank and ditch, which would have helped with defence in its day, although we're not sure if it was even involved in any skirmishes.

We couldn't get Red5 drone too close as there was a bunch of crows lurking around the tower and they sometimes like to pick a fight with a drone, so he kept his distance.

It's another fabulous find and we didn't realise it's just around the corner from Greenknowe Tower.

There is a short walk of around 650m to it where you skirt the edge of a field.

Thanks for checking out this place on the Fabulous North! I do enjoy a wander out in to the countryside trying to find hidden gems that not many people know about. You can't beat a rogue pele tower up a remote hill, a mysterious stone circle or a stunning waterfall secluded in a forest.
