Queen Victoria Statue

Statue In Tynemouth, Tyne And Wear

A statue of Queen Victoria by sculptor Alfred Turner in Tynemouth.

At the top of Tynemouth high street on the outskirts of a small park sits a bronze memorial statue of Queen Victoria. Unveiled on the 25th October 1902, the statue was created by the sculptor Alfred Turner and paid for by public subscription, despite financial hardship in the country due to the ongoing Boer War.

Earlier descriptions indicated that she used to wear a crown and was holding a sceptre in her right hand. There were originally small statues on the finials of the throne.

If you are looking for another fix of Queen Victoria statues, then there is a resplendent Queen Vic statue in Newcastle just outside of the cathedral.

Thanks for checking out this place on the Fabulous North! I do enjoy a wander out in to the countryside trying to find hidden gems that not many people know about. You can't beat a rogue Pele tower up a remote hill or a mysterious stone circle or a stunning waterfall secluded in a forest.
