Saint Aidan of Northumberland (c. 590 – 31 August 651) was a pivotal figure in the early spread of Christianity in Anglo-Saxon England. Hailing from Ireland, he was chosen by King Oswald to establish a monastery on Lindisfarne, which became a center of learning and evangelism.
