East Wemyss is a pretty little village on the North shore of the Firth of Forth.

This short circular walk begins on the banks of the shore. From Weavers Court head west away from the coastal path, before turning right up East Brae.

Once you reach the A955, turn right again until you reach the cemetery.

Instead of walking along the road, I chose to walk through the cemetery, as it is peaceful and away from the main road.

At the far end of the cemetery, there is a gate that allows access to MacDuff Castle and the coastal path.

Take time to investigate the castle, find out more on our MacDuff Castle page.

Once you have investigated MacDuff Castle, you will see a path and steps that allow access to the shore below.

At the bottom of the steps, turn left. Walk along the shore until you reach Jonathan's Cave. Please be careful if you choose to investigate further.

Once you have finished, turn back on yourself and head west down the shore.

The next accessible cave is the Doo Cave, this is well worth exploration.

Continue on the coastal path until you reach the Court Cave.

Again, the caves are dangerous, and much care must be taken.

When you finish investigating the Court Cave, continue on the coastal path until you reach the car.

To find out more about the caves, please see our Wemyss Caves page.

The route is 2.5km with 50m ascent.
