Aberlour Old Packhorse Bridge
Bridge In Dufftown, Scotland
A fine example of an old packhorse bridge, built over the Burn of Aberlour.

The Old Packhorse Bridge at Aberlour was built around 1624 crossing the Burn of Aberlour, locally known as the 'Lour Burn'. It makes a fabulous spot to listen to the babbling burn while enjoying the bridge.

It is possible to walk over this old packhorse bridge but please take care as we don't want to damage this little gem.
There isn't much information available on the bridge, but it's location would suggest that it's the best spot over the burn to access the old Parish Church.

The nearby packhorse bridges of Carrbridge Old Packhorse Bridge and Old Bridge of Livet have stolen the limelight from this beauty, however it really is worth a visit.
It's a short walk up to the Linn of Ruthrie Falls which is a great place to visit or follow the burn down to where it flows into the River Spey and enjoy the riverside walk.

Next to the bridge is the Aberlour Burial Ground which contains the ruins of the former Parish Church of St Drostan and the Macpherson Grant Mausoleum.
The Aberlour Distillery shop is just across the road where you can buy a bottle of my favourite Single Malt Whisky.

Amazingly the bridge is not listed with Historic Environment Scotland, but it is still a valuable historic gem that should be enjoyed and treasured.
There is a large layby just up the road from the bridge if you are planning a quick visit. For a longer stay there is a large car park at the visitors centre or along Aberlour High Street.

I have been a keen hill walker for many years and more recently enjoy trig bagging. When I'm not exploring Northumberland, County Durham and Yorkshire, I spend most of my holidays in bonny Scotland. Other than hills, I love investigating ruinous buildings and waterfalls. I have been a member of NT and EH for years, which also gives me access to Historic Environment Scotland places.
