All About The Fabulous North
Fabulous North is run by a group of contributers who are passionate about exploring all of the amazing places that can be found in the North Of The UK. In addition to the breathtaking landmarks of Bamburgh Castle or the wondrous Northumberlandia or the number of spectacular bridges crossing our rivers, there are so many hidden treasures to be found too.
We see so many pictures of these hidden places on Facebook and social media, but there are rarely any clear information on where they actually are, where to park and how to get there.
Meet The Team
Want to know who writes all these amazing posts. Meet the Fabulous North team!
Andrew
As Andrew has a background in landscape architecture, not only does this enhance his love of visiting parks and nature reserves, it also means he's really good at colouring in! We asked Andrew what his favourite thing to do at the weekend was and he replied “looking at birds through binoculars!” However, this isn't the punchline of a Carry On film as he actually does like a bit of twitching.

Jos is the hype-man of the team, always popping into group chats like a ray of Geordie sunshine. She also has the insane ability to write 1,000 interesting words about a bit of rock, then somehow convince you to drive three counties over to see it in person. She also lives by the mantra “Shy bairns get nowt” and we're pretty sure she has this tattooed somewhere intimate. Combining these traits means that if there is a fabulous place that is on private land, then we send Wor Jos in to knock on some doors with her smile and charisma. Within minutes, she's on a first-name basis with the farmer, his gran and his sheep. Powerfully charming. Slightly terrifying!

Sandra spends most of her days nose-deep in musty old libraries, but manages to stave off the boredom with her extensive sweet sherry collection, which she sips from her Thermos flask. Like Andrew, she is also a bird nerd and has just passed her black belt in bird song identification, having expertly recognised the chirps of a Pied Wagtail, Golden Eagle and a Budgie! Although she has a love of nature, this does not extend to cows and will gladly use any member of the FN team as a human shield should she be confronted by one.

Ros writes posts so detailed and comprehensive that Wikipedia probably gets jealous. Internally we call her "The Badger" because she will relentlessly pursue anyone with information like a polite, but terrifying stalker. Church vicar? Badgered. Local artist? Badgered. Random person who once walked past a historical site? Absolutely badgered. Her posts are so thorough we think they could be used as evidence in court.

Simon is the boffin of the team who built the Fabulous North, although we think the nomenclature “internet bellend” is a closer fit. When not fiddling with code no one asked to be changed, Simon takes great delight in dragging his glamorous assistant up hill and dale just to see a small standing stone in the middle of a muddy field, that looks suspiciously like every other pile of rocks. We constantly hear him say“it's just over this next bit,” and it never is. We're convinced he uses OS maps more as a form of light sabotage than actual navigation.

Jayne
Sarcastically self-titled as the Glamorous Assistant, Jayne actually hates the Fabulous North! Her weekends and holidays used to be spent having short pootles around little villages or picnicking by the edge of a lake. Her heart now sinks when she sees the 18 places to be visited on the itinerary labelled “relaxed day”. Neither wanting to visit a ruined tower or walk 5km to a stone circle, Jayne therefore prefers to reside in the car with her Kindle and the promise of a bottle of wine at the end of day. Don't worry, we leave the window cracked open a bit and she is also known for her excellent getaway driving skills should a disgruntled farmer not be happy with our parking.
Lorraine
We know Lorraine as the “Queen Of The Trig Points” and am sure she has a fascination for finding the highest up places. A lot of her posts will gain you 4 or 5 points in the league table, so if you see Lorraine's name on a write-up, best lace up your boots and mentally prepare for a hike. Possibly vertical.

Red5
The unsung hero of the Fabulous North team, Red5 does all the graft without any of the glory. Named after Luke Skywalker's callsign, he ventures off getting us bonkers photos of places from way up in the air. While the rest of us are dodging cow pats and trying to find signal, Red5 is up there living his best life at 120 metres above, getting the kind of views we'd never see without sprouting wings or getting our stilts on. For the techies, he is a DJI Mini 2.

The Fabulous North was created to help everyone find the amazing hidden gems located in the north of the UK. The website boasts a fully searchable directory of places.
With so many spectacular castles, lakes, beaches, churches and rolling hills, the North is rich in beauty and history. But what about all the little hidden gems that are tucked away that only a few know about? A little stone marker celebrating Queen Victoria's Jubilee tucked up on a crag or a huge crane bucket resting in the middle of a remote field?
We're not just here to show you where the main landmarks are, we also want to help you find all the little nuggets in this amazing region. If you know what you want to see then browse by category and see all that is available. Or you can find places by region if you want to see what is nearby. Not sure what you want to see? Then sit back and let us inspire you.
Not only that, but we will show you exactly where to park and then how to get from your car to the place.
