This is the Ben Donich trig point in the Arrochar Alps (847m) near Lochgilphead

There is a good car park at Glen Mhor, just off the Rest and Be Thankful.
Head south on the track, following the signpost.

After a short distance there is a post guiding you up a path on the left.

Continue up the path as it heads south east before turning north east and zig zagging up the hill,

You will reach a gate, continue through and follow the path as it bends right.

The views really open out and you can spot Ben Lomond through the gap in the mountains.

You will reach a tricky craggy section which involves a scramble. Be very careful as you scramble down and beware of the gaps in the small boulder field. It can be dangerous if covered in snow as the holes are not apparent.

Once you have conquered that small section, the path continues to climb the shoulder of the hill.

As you are approaching the summit, the views back over the Arrochar Alps are amazing. To the left you can see the Cobbler with Beinn Narnain behind and straight ahead is Ben Lomond in the distance.

The summit is fairly level with a few boulders scattered around. It makes for an ideal place for a rest to enjoy the views over Loch Goil as it runs into Loch Long and onwards into the Firth of Clyde.

Ben Donich is definitely one of my most favourite trigs.

It is 3.5m with 585m of ascent to reach Ben Donich.

I have been a keen hill walker for many years and more recently enjoy trig bagging. When I'm not exploring Northumberland, County Durham and Yorkshire, I spend most of my holidays in bonny Scotland. Other than hills, I love investigating ruinous buildings and waterfalls. I have been a member of NT and EH for years, which also gives me access to Historic Environment Scotland places.
