Falls Of Kirkaig
Waterfall In Lairg, Scotland
An impressive waterfall with a 20m drop also knows as Inverkirkaig Falls in Assynt.
The Falls Of Kirkaig can be found in a remote spot in western Assynt. The impressive 20m waterfall is where Fionn Loch flows into the River Kirkaig before reaching Loch Kirkaig and Enard Bay.
To reach the falls, cross the road from the car park and head through the gate heading east. The path follows the riverside walking through some pretty woodland.
As you follow the path the landscape opens up and the mighty whale of Suilven comes into view.
Stay on the path until you reach the sign turning right to reach the falls.
Great care is required to reach the viewing area for the waterfall, as the ground is very steep and can be dangerous, especially in wet weather.
After a wet spell, the sound and power of the fall is outstanding. A true tribute to the power of nature.
After visiting the falls, it is worth returning to the path and continuing further up the glen.
You will be rewarded with views of the Assynt mountains Stac Polliadh, Cul Beag and Cul Mor, then Suilven as you reach Fionn Loch.
It is 3.5km with 160m of ascent to the falls. Follow the above route, or find on OS Maps.

I have been a keen hill walker for many years and more recently enjoy trig bagging. When I'm not exploring Northumberland, County Durham and Yorkshire, I spend most of my holidays in bonny Scotland. Other than hills, I love investigating ruinous buildings and waterfalls. I have been a member of NT and EH for years, which also gives me access to Historic Environment Scotland places.
