Mealt Waterfall And Kilt Rock
Waterfall In Skye, Scotland
A 60m waterfall cascading into the sea next to a 90m basalt cliff resembling a kilt.
When visiting the Isle Of Skye we scoured the map for fabulous places to visit and up popped Mealt Falls and Kilt Rock. I am going to be honest and say my eyesight initially misread it as Meat Falls!
Mealt Falls and Kilt Rock are amazing natural wonders located on the east coast of the Isle of Skye in Scotland. Mealt Falls is a stunning 60m waterfall that plunges from sea cliffs into the Sound of Raasay, while Kilt Rock is an impressive 90m basalt cliff that resembles a pleated kilt.
Mealt Falls
Mealt Falls is named after the freshwater lake, Loch Mealt, that feeds it. The waterfall offers an incredible sight as it cascades into the sea and creates a beautiful rainbow on sunny days. You can view Mealt Falls from an overlook area near the car park, but you can get an even better view if you have a little friendly drone.
Kilt Rock
Kilt Rock is just north of the falls on the Trotternish Peninsula and stands out with its 90m height and unique basalt columns that resemble the pleats of a kilt. The cliff face was formed by volcanic activity millions of years ago, creating a pretty impressive place to snap a photo or two. You can see Kilt Rock at the northern end of the below photograph.
When we visited the car park and overlook were closed for maintenance and it was way too windy to launch Red5 over the sea. Fortunately our new Fabulous North friend Stu Blackburn sent us through all of these amazing aerial photos. Last photo of Kilt Rock kindly supplied by Claire Blake.

Thanks for checking out this place on the Fabulous North! I do enjoy a wander out in to the countryside trying to find hidden gems that not many people know about. You can't beat a rogue pele tower up a remote hill, a mysterious stone circle or a stunning waterfall secluded in a forest.
