This is the Morrone trig point with wonderful views over the Cairngorms (859m) near Braemar.
From the main car park next to Kindrochit Castle in Braemar, turn left heading west, over the bridge and along the main street (Mar Road).
When you come to the roundabout, take the second exit (Chapel Brae), passing the Pattiserie with a random bike on the wall.
Continue along Chapel Brae, passing the pond on the left and taking a left turn when the track forks.
Stay on the path as it winds up hill, taking the path off to the right. At the end of the path, turn left and you will find a lovely viewpoint and place to rest.
The path winds up through the heather, offering fine views behind you over Braemar.
There are plenty of cairns to lead the way to the summit, including several as you reach the plateau.
The views to the north east look towards the Cairngorms.
If you walk to the east of the plateau, you have excellent views over Loch Callater, Lochnagar and the White Mounth Munros.
I can thoroughly recommend doing this walk as a circular by continuing on the track over Morrone, coming down the other side of the hill. When it meet the quiet road, turn left and this takes you back into Braemar.
It is 4.5km with 530m of ascent to the trig point. Follow the above route, or find on OS Maps.

I have been a keen hill walker for many years and more recently enjoy trig bagging. When I'm not exploring Northumberland, County Durham and Yorkshire, I spend most of my holidays in bonny Scotland. Other than hills, I love investigating ruinous buildings and waterfalls. I have been a member of NT and EH for years, which also gives me access to Historic Environment Scotland places.
