View Route On OS MapDuring a visit to East Lothian you can't help but see this massive conical hill jutting out of the landscape above North Berwick everywhere you look. It is known as North Berwick Law, Berwick Law or just The Law.
It was just too tempting not to head up and see what the views were like from the top, so having completed our list of fabulous places to visit in East Lothain for the day, we parked at the little car park at the foot of the hill and headed up.
Looking at the map on the information board, there are clear trails to the summit and it's only a 1km trek so shouldn't take too long. Lots of amazing crags to see.
There are some lovely Exmoor ponies whose job it is to graze and keep the grassland mix at the right levels.
Around half way up now and we're making good time. Make sure you keep to the trails to protect the area.
Following the trail as it circles the hill we're now on the final approach to the top and it starts to get a little steeper here.
Just a little bit further and we're pretty much at the summit now.
We initially come across an old lookout military building that would have been used in the Napoleonic Wars and World War II.
There are also remnants of an old Iron Age Hillfort up here too.
Just above this is the iconic whale's jaw bone which has been here since 1709. It's not the original, but if you want to know then have a read of our Berwick Law post.
And right next to the whale's jaw bone is the Berwick Law trig point which we'll add to our trig point bagging list.
Amazing views from the top over Bass Rock, Tantallon Castle and we could also see Arthur's Seat in Edinburgh from here too.
It's a nice quick walk to the top and only took us 20 minutes to ascend. Then just pick a trail and head back down.

Thanks for checking out this place on the Fabulous North! I do enjoy a wander out in to the countryside trying to find hidden gems that not many people know about. You can't beat a rogue pele tower up a remote hill, a mysterious stone circle or a stunning waterfall secluded in a forest.
