The Scone Circular Walk begins at the car park opposite Scone Old Church. It is well worth visiting the church and the grave of David Douglas, to find out more, visit our Scone Old Church page.

To start the walk, head north east up Burnside until you reach the main Perth Road. Turn left and walk up the road for a short distance, then turn right up Den Road.

Follow the road as it turns into a track, taking you up the Den of Scone. Turn right to cross the bridge over Annaty Burn. When you reach the road, turn left. Then, after a short distance, turn sharp right, taking the footpath to the right of the driveway of Bonhard House. Follow the footpath until you reach another road, turn left. Follow this road for about 750m, passing the impressive gates of Balcraig.

Once past Balcraig, look out for the footpath sign for MacDuffs Monument on the right. Follow the path up to the Monument and its impressive views.

From MacDuffs Monument, you can see your next objective, the Lynedoch Obelisk. Follow the path taking the left fork and pass through the gate.

Cross the gorsy moorland until you reach the Lynedoch Obelisk and the summit of Murrayshall Hill.

Once you have taken in the views over Scone and the surrounding countryside, take the grassy path downhill to the north west. This will take you down to the road, cross the road and continue along the path that runs alongside the golf course. This joins the drive of the Murrayshall Hotel. Continue down the drive to the road, then turn right.

When the road turns right, take the farm track on the left signposted Balgarvie. You will pass a field on the left with a huge Standing Stone in the middle. Keep following the track for approximately 1km, as it turns right after a house onto a minor road.

Follow the road, ignoring the right turn to the park and ride. At the end of the road turn right, this will take you back to the main Perth Road. Cross the road and continue along Highfield Road. Take the second left down Lynedoch Road. At the end of the road, turn right, then left to walk down Abbey Road. This takes you back to Burnside, then turn right, and you will be back at the car park.

I have been a keen hill walker for many years and more recently enjoy trig bagging. When I'm not exploring Northumberland, County Durham and Yorkshire, I spend most of my holidays in bonny Scotland. Other than hills, I love investigating ruinous buildings and waterfalls. I have been a member of NT and EH for years, which also gives me access to Historic Environment Scotland places.
