This is the Carleatheran trig point sitting on the Gargunnock Hills (485m) near Kippen.
From the parking area, walk up the road in a north easterly direction.
Turn right up the rough road, passing a farm on the right. Keep on this track as it bends to the right and starts climbing.
Stay on the track as it passes a through a gate and a tin shelter.
Continue winding up the hill and go through another gate. At this point, both times we have been, there has been a random tractor parked up.
Pass the tractor and as the track levels, turn left. Follow the grassy track onto the plateau of the Gargunnock Hills, as it follows the top of the crags.
The views open out to the borth, looking over to the Trossachs.
Follow the track as it turns into a faint path for around 4km, head for the wind shelter and the trig point.
We were very grateful for the wind shelter, as it was blowing a hoolie when we visited.
This is a very nice walk with fantastic views most of the way. That is of course if you are lucky with the weather.
It is 9km with 430m of ascent to the trig point.
Follow the above route, or find on OS Maps.

I have been a keen hill walker for many years and more recently enjoy trig bagging. When I'm not exploring Northumberland, County Durham and Yorkshire, I spend most of my holidays in bonny Scotland. Other than hills, I love investigating ruinous buildings and waterfalls. I have been a member of NT and EH for years, which also gives me access to Historic Environment Scotland places.
