Coldlaw Cairn
Crag, Rock And Cairn In The Cheviots, Northumberland
A big cairn sitting on the end of Comb Fell.
You might know by now that a love a cairn up a hill somewhere and I originally spotted this one when done a hike up the Cheviot and Hedgehope Hill. As I was heading down from Scotsman's Cairn I spied Coldlaw Cairn and I was in two minds whether to head over.
The fact that it was raining, I was already 15km in and Comb Fell was looking was looking its usual boggy self, I decided to leave it for another day. So when I was up bagging Breamish Head for the Cheviot 99 Challenge, it was just a short diversion to Coldlaw Cairn.
Although not a particularly large cairn, it can seen from quite a distance and sits prominently on the end of Comb Fell, guarding the entrance to the wettest place in the Cheviots!
It's a canny trek to get to it and probs the quickest is to head up the Cheviot and then over from Scotsman's Knowe. Or just follow the valley floor from Linhope all the way to High Cantle and then head up from there.
Follow the route above or find it on OS Maps. Around 10km and 522m of climbing to get there.

Thanks for checking out this place on the Fabulous North! I do enjoy a wander out in to the countryside trying to find hidden gems that not many people know about. You can't beat a rogue pele tower up a remote hill, a mysterious stone circle or a stunning waterfall secluded in a forest.
