East Gill Force

Waterfall In Richmond, North Yorkshire

Pretty waterfalls near Keld in Swaledale.

East Gill Force is a waterfall that flows from East Gill into the River Swale near Keld in Swaledale.

It was a unexpected discovery when we were on our way to bag Rogan's Seat, a popular summit and Marilyn category hill in the area.

From the camping car park in Keld, head back towards the village, but turn left down the footpath that runs above the river.

When the footpath splits, take the left path down to the river.

Before crossing the bridge, it is worth taking the path down to the view the lower falls from this side of the river.

Retrace your steps and this time cross the bridge, then head right to get to the falls. It is a fantastic spot for a picnic.

It was so beautiful, we did pop back on the way down for a drink and rest.

It is just over 0.5km to the falls. Follow the above route, or find on OS Maps.

I have been a keen hill walker for many years and more recently enjoy trig bagging. When I'm not exploring Northumberland, County Durham and Yorkshire, I spend most of my holidays in bonny Scotland. Other than hills, I love investigating ruinous buildings and waterfalls. I have been a member of NT and EH for years, which also gives me access to Historic Environment Scotland places.
