Kisdon

Hill In Richmond, North Yorkshire

Kisdon is a hill with a large cairn (499m) near Keld, Upper Swaledale in the Yorkshire Dales.

This is Kisdon, a popular hill and Marilyn between Thwaite and Keld in Swaledale. There is a large cairn at the summit, from where you can enjoy beautiful views for a modest effort.

From the layby on the B6270, walk down the road a short distance before crossing the road and heading down the track.

The track climbs and contours the side of the hill heading south. Pass through a few gate before turning left and heading through a large area of stone sheepfolds.

Once past the sheepfolds, keep heading northeast with the wall to your left. When you are at the highest point, turn left through a gap in the wall and make your way to the large cairn and summit of Kisdon.

It is 2.5km with 190m of ascent to reach the summit of Kisdon.

Follow the above route, or find on OS Maps.

Contributed by Lorraine London

I have been a keen hill walker for many years and more recently enjoy trig bagging. When I'm not exploring Northumberland, County Durham and Yorkshire, I spend most of my holidays in bonny Scotland. Other than hills, I love investigating ruinous buildings and waterfalls. I have been a member of NT and EH for years, which also gives me access to Historic Environment Scotland places.
