Featherwood Waterfall
Waterfall In Otterburn Ranges, Northumberland
A stunning little waterfall secluded on the Otterburn Ranges near Featherwood.

Most of the places we post on the Fabulous North are meticulously planned after spending hours scouring maps, doing online searches and plotting routes. But sometimes you just see something amazing out of the blue. This is what happened with Featherwood Waterfall.
We were having a bit of an explore of the Otterburn Ranges and just heading down to Bellshiel Law Long Cairn, when we spotted this beautiful little trickling waterfall just off the road. Fortunately there was space to park next to it so we headed down.

Featherwood Waterfall sits on the Sills Burn which is actually a tributary of the River Rede.

The small cascade drops down into a catch pool and is surrounded by some lush moss and ferns. Typically two narrow streams flow over the rocky ledge into a the plunge pool, but may have been a dry spell when we visited, as there was just one.
You can get right down to it, but careful as you go.

We're not sure its official name is Featherwood Waterfall, but it's located at a place called Featherwood on the map on the Otterburn Ranges.
The waterfall is also right on the old Roman road of Dere Street, so no doubt a few centurions would have filled up their Stanley Cup here when marching through.

As mentioned, Featherwood Waterfall is located on the Otterburn Ranges which are only open on non-firing days. Always check the website for firing times.

Thanks for checking out this place on the Fabulous North! I do enjoy a wander out in to the countryside trying to find hidden gems that not many people know about. You can't beat a rogue pele tower up a remote hill, a mysterious stone circle or a stunning waterfall secluded in a forest.
