Gimmermoor Cairns
Crag, Rock And Cairn In The Cheviots, Northumberland
A set of three cairns north of Carlcroft Hill called the Gimmermoor Cairns, although I could only find two.
You know what it's like. You spend hours meticulously planning your hike for the Cheviot 99 Challenge, pinponting each hill you want to visit with military precision.
Then on the day you spot something on the map called the Gimmermoor Cairns and find yourself immediately wandering off course. This pretty much sums up all my hikes!
The Gimmermoor Cairns looked to be three dots on the map, meaning there should be three cairns to find. I looked high and low and couldn't find the top right one near the fence anywhere. The other two were quite prominent.
Even though they are prominent enough to mark on the map, I couldn't find anything about them online. Maybe they just served as markers or were part of some prehistoric ceremonial structures.
Either way they have fab views over Yearning Law and they sit just north of Carlcroft Hill.
To get there, park up at Buckham's Bridge, follow the road east and then take the path up onto Carlcroft Hill. Follow the fence line north where you will find the Gimmermoor Cairns.
Let us know if you find the third one.
Just under 4km and 187m of ascent.

Thanks for checking out this place on the Fabulous North! I do enjoy a wander out in to the countryside trying to find hidden gems that not many people know about. You can't beat a rogue pele tower up a remote hill, a mysterious stone circle or a stunning waterfall secluded in a forest.
