Killingworth Hippos

Art In Killingworth, Tyne And Wear

A family of four concrete hippos on a housing estate in Killingworth.

There is not a lot of information about the Killingworth Hippos other than they were created by Stan Bonnar, who created similar hippo statues in Glenrothes New Town, Fife. Probably using the same moulds.

This bloat of hippos are located at Garth 22 in Killingworth and were installed as part of a local authority housing scheme.

Plenty of parking nearby. We parked in a garage block which was around 20m away from the hippos.

Thanks for checking out this place on the Fabulous North! I do enjoy a wander out in to the countryside trying to find hidden gems that not many people know about. You can't beat a rogue pele tower up a remote hill, a mysterious stone circle or a stunning waterfall secluded in a forest.
