LMA Mural

In September 2026 LMA Newcastle welcomed its first students looking to study subjects in film, music and media and to celebrate the opening of the new campus a huge 10m high mural was commissioned for the side wall of an adjacent building.

The mural was designed and created by local artists Jimmy Turrell and Peter Manning, known as Prefab77, and provides a vibrant backdrop to the area. The mural celebrates the creativity and excitement of the surrounding area and provides inspiration to the many new students who will pass it each day on their way to study.

Commissioned by Creative Central NCL, it forms part of a number of urban artworks / galleries across the city which have brightened up various, streets, underpasses and alleyways such as Pink Lane and Forth Lane. It is a mixture of both artist's styles but reads as a single large-scale artwork.

It's a great way to brighten up a forgotten corner of Blandford Street as part of a wider urban artwork strategy that will hopefully enhance more of the city's public spaces.
