Maspie Den Waterfall

Waterfall In Fife, Scotland

A pretty little waterfall on the Maspie Burn, that can be found on the large Falkland Estate.

Maspie Den is a fantastic woodland walk with the bonus of a cute little waterfall. It forms part of the extensive Falkland Estate which has many paths and places of interest.

The walk starts from the Maspie Den car park next to the Falkland Stables cafe, which offers lovely food in a great setting.

From the car park and turn right, pass the cafe and head up the road.

Keep an eye to the left and just before a bridge at the sign, head into the woods.

Continue along the woodland path as it passes the House of Falkland which is now a school. Continue on the path as it passes under a bridge.

Stay on the path as it passes through a tunnel, following the side of the burn.

The path is well maintained with steps at the steeper sections.

Before you know it, you will reach the waterfall.

It had been quite dry when we visited, so it only offered a trickle. However, it is a brilliant walk and offers a lovely relaxing place to take a rest.

At this point you can retrace your steps, or go over the bridge, turn right and visit the Temple of Decisions and the Tyndall Bruce Monument.

It is 1.5km with around 70m of ascent on woodland paths to reach the waterfall.

Follow the above route, or find on OS Maps.

I have been a keen hill walker for many years and more recently enjoy trig bagging. When I'm not exploring Northumberland, County Durham and Yorkshire, I spend most of my holidays in bonny Scotland. Other than hills, I love investigating ruinous buildings and waterfalls. I have been a member of NT and EH for years, which also gives me access to Historic Environment Scotland places.
