Green Law Waterfall

When out for a wander in the Cheviots I tend to plan my routes meticulously, mainly so I know how far I'm doing, how much water/food to pack and also to make sure I'm back at the car before dusk.

That means I know pretty much everything I am going to find on the walk.

But like a cat seeing a shiny thing, when I spy something nearby on the map, I tend to wander off to investigate. Today I was bagging some hills in the Cheviot 99 Challenge and as I was heading over to Wedder Hill I noticed a waterfall at the bottom of Green Law on the map.

I was actually halfway up Green Law at the time and I thought to myself that there was no way there was a waterfall up here. I had just crossed over the Rennies Burn a few minutes ago and it was a only a shallow little burn, so surely the waterfall must only be a little trickle.

But when a waterfall is marked on the OS Maps, then it must be of some significance, so I did a bit of a detour to go and have a look.

And boy, I wasn't disappointed! This smashing little waterfall cascaded maybe 1.5m in four small shoots into a pool. The air temperature was about 6 degrees and this water was a tad colder than that, so I didn't take a dip or even pop a toe in.

Instead I had a 5 min sit down and had a rummage in the rucksack for a snack. Obviously Fruity Malt!

I don't think this waterfall has a name, but I guess I will refer to it as the Green Law Waterfall.

Rennies Burn Waterfall is also a shout too.

Another fab thing about this waterfall is that it's in the middle of nowhere!

If you fancy a jaunt to Green Law Waterfall, then park at Buckham's Bridge Car Park at Blindburn. You can get here from following the little windy west from Alwinton, or heading east from Chew Green. Then just follow the permissive path up to Green Law.

Follow the route on OS Maps. Around 3km from the parking and 123m ascent.
