This is Monument Hill Trig Point (355m) sitting on top of Whita Hill near Langholm.

Bagging a trig point can sometimes be a little mundane. You park, walk to the trig point, tap it to bag (of course) and then walk back to the car. But sometimes a trig point has other fabulous places to visit nearby.

The Monumnet Hill trig point has not one, but two friends nearby. Sitting right next to the trig point up on Whita Hill is the Malcolm Monument, an obelisk on for John Malcolm, one of Langholm's most accomplished naval officers.

And right where you park for your trek up to the Monument Hill trig point is the Hugh MacDiarmid Memorial, A cast iron book sculpture a dedicated to the Scottish poet.

Hugh MacDiarmid Memorial

Around 1.25km from the car park and 97m of ascent. So maybe 15-20 mins at a leisurely stroll.

Thanks for checking out this place on the Fabulous North! I do enjoy a wander out in to the countryside trying to find hidden gems that not many people know about. You can't beat a rogue pele tower up a remote hill, a mysterious stone circle or a stunning waterfall secluded in a forest.
