The Beacon Trig Point
Trig Point In Harbottle, Northumberland
The Beacon trig point sits in dense heather on Dues Hill (301m) near Harbottle.
Height - 301m // Bracket - S8062 // Postcode - NE65 7AN
This is the The Beacon trig point (301m) near Harbottle.
From the layby, cross the road and follow the PROW south across three fields. The path then enters a copse of trees, keep on the path as it takes you through a couple of gates, passing the edge of a small farmyard.
The path then joins a large track. Stay on this track until you see a faint path off to the right, which heads for the left corner of the heather moor, head for the gate.
Go through the gate and keep heading southwest, this part is quite steep and the paths are faint, however, you can see the wooded area that you are heading for.
Once the ground levels off, it can be boggy on this section up to the fence where you enter Dues Hill. Aim for the highest spot next to some large rocks. Close to the rocks, there is a broken piece of fence which makes it is easier to enter Dues Hill, however, this is when the real hard work begins. You need to head for the highest ground to the southeast.
The heather is high and the ground uneven, continue with great care.
After a battle with the terrain, you will find the trig in amongst trees, rocks and heather.
It is a rough 2.5km with 200m of ascent to the trig point.
