White Cairn Corriedoo
Crag, Rock And Cairn In Dumfries And Galloway, Scotland
A huge Bronze Age cairn measuring over 4m high and 32m long, near Corriedoo, Dumfries & Galloway.

I was looking for some interesting places to visit close to the cottage where we were staying. I noticed White Cairn near Corriedoo pop up on Google Maps and as it was only a short drive away I thought it was worth checking out. It is a few miles north west of New Galloway.

From the large layby, you can see the huge cairn behind the wall on the edge of the forest. The only challenge now, it to make your way over the tussocky boggy ground.

I'm not going to lie, it was challenging terrain and there is a stream to negotiate!

The White Cairn (also known as the Corriedoo Cairn) is thought to be a Bronze Age cairn measuring nearly 4 meters high and 32 meters wide. It has been robbed of stones, but it is still impressive. There is not much else to say, except it is worth a visit if you are passing.

The cairn is a Scheduled Monument listed by Historic Environment Scotland.

I have been a keen hill walker for many years and more recently enjoy trig bagging. When I'm not exploring Northumberland, County Durham and Yorkshire, I spend most of my holidays in bonny Scotland. Other than hills, I love investigating ruinous buildings and waterfalls. I have been a member of NT and EH for years, which also gives me access to Historic Environment Scotland places.
