Bellyside Crag
Crag, Rock And Cairn In The Cheviots, Northumberland
The highest crag in Northumberland sitting on Mid Hill on the Cheviot Summit.

The Northumberland Crag Naming Committee pulled a blinder with the naming of this one. Welcome to Bellyside Crags. The big flat top of the Cheviot collects a lot of rainwater, which has has to go somewhere, and so there are lots of little burns running down its banks including the College Burn and the Bizzle Burn.

Another of those little streams is called the Bellyside Burn and it whittles its way down the north side of the Cheviot. Perched at the source of this burn is the similarly named Bellyside Crag.
Sitting at 770m, Bellyside Crag is the tallest crag in Northumberland.
From the top there is a cracking little ridge that you can walk up from the bottom accompanying the Bellyside Burn all of the way to the crag.

If you fancy a visit to the top, then you would probably do it as part of a bigger walk exploring the top of the Cheviot, but the quickest way is to park at Mounthooly Bunkhouse, head across to Dunsdale and then walk up that little ridge all of the way to the top.
That is around 6km with a whopping 581m of climbing!
Or for something a bit different, why not walk up Bizzle Crags. Careful it can get a little hairy in places.

Thanks for checking out this place on the Fabulous North! I do enjoy a wander out in to the countryside trying to find hidden gems that not many people know about. You can't beat a rogue pele tower up a remote hill, a mysterious stone circle or a stunning waterfall secluded in a forest.
