Housey Crags

Crag, Rock And Cairn In The Cheviots, Northumberland

A huge chunk of rock sitting on the north east banks of Hedgehope Hill overlooking the Harthope Valley.

If you're planning an adventure in the Harthope Valley then no doubt you would have made your way along to the parking at Langleeford. As you're heading down the little winding (and sometimes precarious) road, a big chunk of rock appears in the distance. Acting like a sentinel standing guard over the entrance to Hedgehope Hill, this is Housey Crags.

This is one of my favourite areas in the Cheviots as you can see Housey Crags looming as you drive up the valley and then you park directly underneath it. So when you are heading down Hedgehope Hill or The Cheviot you just need to look out for it to know you are nearly back at the car.

The Harthope Valley splits Hedgehope Hill and The Cheviot so you get amazing views of both when you make the trek up here.

But Housey Crags is not up here alone. It has lots of nearby friends including Middleton Crags, Langlee Crags, Long Crags, Tathey Crag and Steel Crag.

The fab thing is that once you have climbed up from the valley floor to Housey Crags, you can pretty much see all of the other crags, so you can easily wander over to them. Once you're done, just look for Housey Crags as you know the car is parked under there.

Or course we had to send up the drone to get some more unusual shots.

And this is one of my favourite photos of Housey Crags with Hedgehope Hill and Long Crags to the left and the Cheviot to the right.

To get here, simply park on the grassy area at Langleeford underneath Housey Crags. Then cross the little bridge with the fingerpost and follow the track all the way to Housey Crags.

Follow the route above or open on OS Maps.

Thanks for checking out this place on the Fabulous North! I do enjoy a wander out in to the countryside trying to find hidden gems that not many people know about. You can't beat a rogue pele tower up a remote hill, a mysterious stone circle or a stunning waterfall secluded in a forest.
