Hethpool Linn Waterfall

Waterfall In The Cheviots, Northumberland

A lovely cascading waterfall in a stunning gorge near Hethpool in The Cheviots.

I like to think I've had a canny wander throughout the Cheviots and Northumberland National Park, but there are still quite a few surprises left for me to find. On a recent trip to find some hillforts in the College Valley I made a little detour to find the fabulous Hethpool Linn Waterfall.

I had a little faff on with my camera settings to try and make it look a little more atmospheric!

Although not very tall, maybe 3-4 metres of cascading, its location in a cute little gorge makes it very picturesque.

Someone has built a little weir. I must admit I did try and cross it to get a better photo and nearly went in!

You can then head back up to the path and find lots of other little tracks heading down to get more snaps of the burn and a few extra little cascades.

I tried another shot that made the cascade look a bit ethereal!

The little river that runs down Hethpool Linn is the College Burn and starts way up on The Cheviot, runs down the Hen Hole and then up the College Valley towards Hethpool.

It then spills into the River Glen, the River Till before ending up in the River Tweed which heads out into the North Sea.

When walking back on the upper track I heard another bit of rushing of water and a quick scramble through some trees and then precariously standing on an edge of some rocks I found another little cascade.

Hethpool Linn Waterfall is a smashing little place for a wander. Careful though as you're in the wilderness of the national park, so it can be a little overgrown in parts.

Worryingly I found a pair of underpants discarded at the top. Someone either had a very good time or a very bad time here!

If you want to visit then park up at the main Hethpool car park and it's just a short 1.3km walk there, all on permissive paths. Bring some sturdy footwear through. Follow the map to get there.

Thanks for checking out this place on the Fabulous North! I do enjoy a wander out in to the countryside trying to find hidden gems that not many people know about. You can't beat a rogue pele tower up a remote hill, a mysterious stone circle or a stunning waterfall secluded in a forest.
