This popped up on my social media, so clearly my algorithm knows I'm on the hunt for unusual places to visit, and you donut want to miss this one!

Tucked away on a perfectly ordinary corner of Felling is Neil Talbot's Victorian Baker's Shop, a pottery tribute to a long-lost local bakery. Crafted in 1986 from 250 carved ceramic tiles, it's not just a pretty facade, it's a full-on Victorian shopfront, assembled tile by tile with remarkable attention to detail.

The windows are jam-packed (pun intended) with bread, buns, pies, and cakes. It's the kind of display that would've had locals pressing their noses to the glass and now has passers-by doing a double take. And right in the centre? A dog that takes the (gingerbread) biscuit.

What makes this piece extra special is its location, it's built into the actual site of the old bakery, turning a blank wall into a slice of Felling's history.

The mural was commissioned as part of the Gateshead Council Arts in Public Places scheme.

Contributed by Rachel Hagar

Adventurer, amateur photographer, and listophile. I love finding new and unusual places, especially a good waterfall or a place with Tudor era history, due to my small obsession with Henry VIII. I try to get out and about in the fresh air whenever I can, dragging my daughter along for the ride, to get her (and me) away from screens and devices.
